Natural ways to prevent cancer.

Natural ways to prevent cancer. Cancer is arguably one of the most destructive diseases of all time. No matter what stage or how minor the invading illness may be, a cancer diagnosis is incredibly devastating for the individual receiving it and their friends and family. Cancer takes a toll both physically and mentally, and unfortunately, the outcome is not the desired one many times.

It is essential to note that as science and medicine have progressed over the decades, there have been more discoveries that help cancer-fighting, and in the most favorable outcomes, send a patient into remission. However, another crucial question when it comes to cancer is how to prevent it. Are there any natural ways to prevent cancer? What are some of the best steps to take for cancer prevention?

What is Cancer?

Cancer refers to an umbrella term used to describe many diseases caused when abnormal cells multiply quickly, simultaneously spreading to other tissues and organs. Unfortunately, cancer is one of the principal causes of death worldwide.

A healthy human body contains trillions of cells, each with a specified daily function and lifespan, reproducing and dying off when necessary. DNA is usually responsible for assigning each cell a task and lifespan. Though mutations happen pretty regularly in DNA, the cells often correct the mistakes themselves. If a mistake is not corrected, a cell might become cancerous. This disease disrupts the cells' normal process, leading to abnormal growth.

Types of Cancer

As mentioned previously, there are many different types of cancer. Cancers are usually named based on the area they develop and the type of cells that compose them:

  • Carcinoma: Refers to the type of cancer that begins in the skin or tissues that line other organs.
  • Sarcoma: Refers to the type of cancer that begins in the bones, cartilage, muscles, and blood vessels.
  • Lymphoma and Myeloma: Refers to the type of cancers of the immune system.
  • Leukemia: Refers to the type of cancer found in bone marrow, which creates blood cells.

Risk Factors

As stated above, the direct cause of cancer is mutations in the DNA in cells. Though some mutations can be inherited genetically, they may also occur after birth from the result of environmental changes and exposure, such as:

  • Radiation
  • Exposure to the sun (while not wearing sunscreen or some other form of protection)
  • Smoking
  • Exposure to carcinogens (cancer-causing chemicals).
  • Viruses such HPV
  • Daily lifestyle choices such as physical activity and nutrition.

Natural Ways to Prevent Cancer

Up until now, we have mainly discussed what cancer is and the different kinds. However, one of the most crucial things to consider when talking about cancer is how to prevent it.

Unfortunately, we often tend to overlook a problem until it is too late, and the same goes for cancer prevention. The best way to stay safe from diseases such as cancer is to follow the necessary steps to prevent it, such as not smoking, wearing sunscreen, and performing consistent screening prevention tests. However, a considerable part of this prevention comes from an individual's diet. What a person eats may drastically affect the risk of developing various diseases, cancer included. Nutrition for cancer prevention is perhaps the easiest way to avoid this damaging illness. Some of the best foods and supplements for cancer prevention are:

Nutrition for cancer prevention
  • Broccoli: Contains sulforaphane, a plant compound with cancer-fighting properties.
  • Carrots: Studies have shown that consuming this vegetable links to a decreased risk of certain types of cancer.
  • Beans: High in fiber, which may help protect against colorectal cancer.
  • Berries: High in anthocyanins, plant pigments with antioxidant properties.
  • Cinnamon
  • Nuts
  • Olive Oil
  • Turmeric
  • Citrus Fruits
  • Flaxseed
  • Tomatoes
  • Garlic
  • Fatty Fish
  • Vitamin C & D
